The beauty of Invisalign begins with a metal-free smile and ends with a beautiful smile!
Unlike metal-braces, which require frequent adjustments or tightening of the wires, you can expect a different experience with Invisalign. Often times, many patients with traditional, metal braces may experience headaches or migraines following an adjustment appointment, which involves tightening the wire that connects the brackets on the teeth. From this, the wire exerts a certain amount of pressure on the teeth, which is what can cause headaches, migraines, or discomfort for some patients. However, because Invisalign doesn’t have wires like this it’s different.
The Invisalign Process:
One set of Invisalign aligners aren’t meant to be worn forever. In fact, it is quite the opposite.
Instead of adjusting wires for metal braces, new sets of aligners are supposed to be worn for a certain amount of time dependent on the orthodontist’s instructions. Typically, a patient can expect to wear one set of aligners for 1-2 weeks before transitionally into an entirely new set. Depending on the transition and what tooth movements are intended to occur, there could be some minor discomfort or “tightness” of the teeth, but nothing should feel extremely uncomfortable. However, every patient is different. It could be possible that you may feel a slight tension headache. If this is the case, we recommend taking an over-the-counter pain reliever, if needed. If the headache doesn’t seem to subside, we request that you please contact us immediately.
